how do we write each chapter of the lore?
At Old Lore Whiskey Company, every bottle begins the same way: with a barrel that earns its place.
We are afforded a rare privilege in the world of independent bottling — the ability to taste and personally select every barrel we purchase. This hands-on approach allows us to evaluate each cask on its own merits before it ever becomes part of an Old Lore release. Every barrel must tell a story, reveal character, and hold the promise of something extraordinary.
Most independent bottlers are offered only a single taste of one barrel before committing to several, sometimes dozens, from the same lot. Many casks go untasted, leaving their potential hidden, while others are taken on blind faith. At Old Lore, nothing is left to chance.
We travel among the aging stock of some of the world’s most respected distillers, moving from rickhouse to rickhouse, exploring barrels that have quietly evolved over years. Microclimates play their part in the transformation: some barrels rest in warmer, sunlit corners that coax out rich caramel and spice, while others dwell in cooler, damper nooks, drawing out delicate fruit and toasted oak notes. Every tier, every row, every stave of wood subtly shapes the spirit within.
It is in these quiet variations that magic happens — a barrel that whispers of orchard fruit, another that hums with deep caramel, a third that resonates with smoke and spice. We taste, measure, and discern, letting the barrels speak for themselves.
This is why every Old Lore release is entirely curated and hand selected. We are never forced to bottle a cask that doesn’t meet our standards. Each barrel chosen is a testament to patience, discernment, and respect for the craft.
At Old Lore Whiskey Company, the story of great whiskey begins long before the bottle is filled — in the silent evolution of each barrel, shaped by time, wood, and the invisible hand of nature. One barrel at a time, we seek the extraordinary.
